Plastic Surgery in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is not only a great place to visit beautiful scenery and beaches, it has some of the best plastic surgeons in the Western Hemisphere, and is a great place to schedule and recover from a host of cosmetic procedures. There are several internationally-recognized doctors who are fluent in both Spanish and English, and who can help you become the best version of yourself.

One obvious choice for choosing the Dominican Republic over another country is price- the cost of a tummy tuck in the USA can be as much as $6,500, but in the Dominican Republic it’s around a third less. With many doctors, the price includes not only the cost of the expertly-performed procedure, but also your hospital stay and recovery.

Most Common Procedures

Below is a short list of the three most popular procedures.

Tummy Tuck

This popular procedure is used to thin and firm the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat, and then tightening the muscles and fascia in the abdominal wall. The procedure will take several hours, and you will be put under general anesthesia, and will need to stay overnight in a hospital. There are two types of tummy tucks- partial and complete abdominoplasty. In a partial tummy tuck an incision will be made below the belly button and skin will be removed before the doctor tightens the muscles and skin. In a full abdominoplasty the surgeon will make an incision from one hip bone to the other, remove any excess fat and skin, and tighten the muscles and skin, usually removing and then replacing the belly button. This procedure will usually leave a scar on the lower abdomen.

The most common areas where this procedure is performed are the hips, thighs, buttocks, and abdominal areas. Before the procedure the surgeon will mark the body where fat will be removed before the patient is put under general anesthesia, although for some lower body procedures an epidural anesthetic is used and the patient remains awake. The procedure itself is done with a small incision made on the body, followed by the insertion of a small tube attached to a vacuum machine. The tube is manipulated under the skin to loosen and remove any fat before the incision is stitched and bandaged. The vast majority of patients remain in the hospital overnight following this procedure. The general recovery time is about two weeks, but for smaller areas a person may be able to return to daily activity in less time.

Breast Augmentation

There are multiple types of breast augmentation, including lifts, reduction, and enhancement. Through enhancement you can expect increased fullness and projection of breasts, as well as balancing of the figure. A breast lift addresses the drooping which is a result of the ageing process. For all of these procedures you will be put under general anesthesia before an incision is made under the nipple, underneath, or in the armpit, depending on the individual. From here an implant is placed either below or above the pectoral muscle, based on the individual and what is discussed with the surgeon. The incision will then be closed and the wound bandaged. Recovery time will last about 48 hours, followed by restricted movement and activity for several days to a few weeks.
